Farewell to Our Beloved Lion, Hulk
We’re heartbroken to share the passing of one of our most cherished residents — Hulk the African Lion.
Hulk and his pride were the last performing lions in NSW, adored by audiences across the state during their years with Stardust Circus. The circus always held a deep love and respect for their animals. When the COVID pandemic brought live performances to an end, they faced the difficult task of rehoming their beloved cats — and were determined that the pride remain together, recognising that their bond was strong and that they would feel safest and most content as a family.
Amazement proudly built a custom-designed enclosure and welcomed the entire lion family into retirement in 2021, where they could live out their lives surrounded by peace, care, and companionship.
Hulk was born with a degenerative eye disease that worsened as he aged. He was monitored closely by our veterinary team throughout his life, receiving regular check-ups and treatment to keep him comfortable. In 2022, one of his eyes had to be surgically removed to relieve discomfort, but he recovered beautifully — his new one-eyed look only added to his charm. Known for his gentle spirit and iconic gaze, Hulk captured the hearts of everyone who met him. He enjoyed a peaceful retirement filled with affection, comfort, and expert care from our dedicated keeping and veterinary teams.
Sadly, his health declined again in recent months, and with deep love and respect, our staff and veterinary team made the heartbreaking decision to let him rest peacefully.
Though his mighty roar has fallen silent, his story and spirit will always remain part of our Amazement family.
Our team continues to watch over his pride, carefully monitoring their welfare and social dynamics as they adjust to his absence. We too mourn this incredible lion who touched so many hearts.
